The Heart Clinic
Service Component: The Heart Clinic is part of WeCREATE activities. It starts as a service component with comprehensive primary prevention toward reducing cardiovascular disease. Screening and prevention activities are designed to become integrated into the family life of school students. The non-profit foundations support the project by fundraising – RelationalMedicine Foundation– and providing instrumentation (EKG, Ultrasound), UG training to perform EKG, and logistics –Saving Hearts Foundation.
Research Component: Community members and participant doctors are invited to a) be recorded during their encounters and b) review the recorded encounters and see if, together, we can
identify a better process that will include patients’ perspectives more fully in clinical practice
Create a humanistically more powerful framework for medicine.
Support medical professionals to best communicate within local communities and empower families to learn about and manage their own care.
Learning component: The recordings are utilized to run the Learning component. Here, participant doctors/trainees can review and reflect on their medical encounters to improve practice and learn new communication and relation skills necessary to work with and within racially and ethnically diverse communities.
